Crime Prevention

Criminals don’t take a holiday or get a day off. One must always remember that you can be the next victim.  Preventing crime is often simple as realizing that it can happen to you and taking basic precautions to prevent it.

Please view the following links to information that will increase your awareness of what criminals are searching for in a victim so that you and your family can become less of a target for criminals.  Awareness and Prevention are the keys to staying safe.

Preston Highlands is a great place to live, and to keep it that way we have an active Neighborhood Crime Watch Program. As we are surrounded by new homes, apartments, businesses, increased traffic and increased accessibility, it is very important that YOU take an active role in protecting our neighborhood. Look, listen, and call 9-1-1! Better safe than sorry!

The basic principle of a Neighborhood Crime Watch Program is that we watch out for each other. By looking after a neighbor’s property – and PHHA common areas -- as if they were your own, you will more likely contact the police if you observe something suspicious. An alert and cooperative neighborhood is the greatest single defense against crime. By getting to know your neighbors and their vehicles, you will most likely be alert to suspicious people, vehicles, and/or sounds that could indicate criminal activity.

The Safety and Security message is “LIGHT UP PRESTON HIGHLANDS!” As our VIP volunteers drive alleys at night, they are very dark. The Dallas Police Department says a major deterrent against crime is perimeter lights. Even better, make them motion-activated to startle potential criminals away. They are reasonably priced and easy to install. Consider your safety and that of your neighbors and help us LIGHT UP PRESTON HIGHLANDS! And if you already have alley, perimeter and front porch lights, TURN THEM ON at night.

As a Crime Watch Neighbor, your responsibilities are to be a good neighbor by watching out for each other's property and by reporting suspicious activity to the police. You should know the three neighbors across the street from your home, on each side, and the three neighbors behind your residence. YOU should have a heightened awareness for your neighbors welfare and you should be more than willing to report suspicious activity to the police. You can be assured that your name will be held in strictest confidence.
